LITTLE WOMEN
Here's our review
As we have previously mentioned, in this website we would like to spread awareness of some problems that still happen in our world. One of those issues is gender equality and the lack of women’s presence in the film and TV industry (among all the others). For that, one film we chose to talk about is Little Women. This film is one of the perfect examples to portray how important it is for women to have the same human rights as men.

Apart from the connection of the story with the issue, it should be noted that this film's director is a woman called Greta Gerwig. Greta is one of the current best known female directors, in fact, some of her other films such as Lady Bird, No strings Attached and Greenberg, among others, may sound familiar to you too. In a lot of her films, Greta tries to talk about women’s power and that makes her a perfect example for our review.

Regarding the story of the film, Little Women is named after and inspired by the novel that Louisa May Alcott wrote back in 1868. In both the film and novel we can see how Jo, the main character, is a very independent woman who wants to chase her goal of becoming a successful writer. Unfortunately, because of her gender she is most of the time held back from achieving her dream and she is not the only one. Her sisters suffer from the same problem. Her youngest sister Amy, who is very talented at painting, gives her best in order to improve her paintings and become one of the best known artists. Of course, because of her gender, she has to improve her technique a lot more than other famous painters. Jo’s oldest sister Meg wants to be an actress, but as society has taught women their whole life to have the same common interests and behaviours, she puts marriage and taking care of family before her dreams. Finally, her younger sister Beth has a gift for music but has some other problems between her hobby and her personal life. Throughout the film we can see how this family copes with problems that constantly emerge and how they do it to do what they love and not be held back.

In addition to all this, Greta has created a beautiful film in which love, growth, struggle, disappointment, anger and passion all go together and have a place in every character's life in a way or another. Also, we must mention the great environment in which the film is set. All the costumes, atrezzos and artistic elements are greatly chosen in order to portray the times in which this story is supposed to have happened (back in the 1860s).

To sum up, Little Women is a great film to empower those who lack gender equality, want to get some inspiration from the characters and feel more independent and good with themselves. The film gives an amazing example of self love, fighting for what eachself stands for no matter what and to be true to ourselves. Moreover, Little Women happens to be very useful to understand where we come from and how life was for women back then. Thus, we can learn from our mistakes and awaken from the blindness society sometimes imposes us.
